Arjan van Gent
Arjan van Gent was born June 3rd 1970 in Delft and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague. His works are to be found in private collections, commercial institutions and various museums including Gerard Reve Museum in Amsterdam.
"Arjan van Gent's gift of painting is a succesful combination of talent, knowledge and professional skill. Due to the ever changing quality of art teaching at the Academy Arjan decided himself to delve deeper into the techniques of the art of painting. The question of how to judge Arjan's work as far as technique is concerned is not difficult, it is much more complicated if it involves appreciating the value of his talent. In the 18th century the philospher Francois Hemsterhuis developed a method of assessment which appears to be very relevant and useful today, by applying this method to Van Gent's work we can only conclude that we are dealing with a very talented painter."
This text which was written by Theo Laurentius, can be found on the back cover of part 5 of the series Haags Palet, entitled "Arjan van Gent - Licht, ruimte en ogenblik". This edition of the Stichting Haagse Beeldende Kunst en Kunstnijverheid appeared at the end of 2002 on the occasion of Van Gent's solo exhibition in the Pulchri Studio in The Hague, where his work is regularly to be seen.
