Roberto Hollanda
"I met Roberta Hollanda in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in late 2009 where I visited at the invitation of the Brazilian government to present a program to Brazilian artists on exporting their artwork. Of the dozens of artists I also met with individually, I was quite taken with the sculpture of Roberto Hollanda. His unique sculptures of men and women are made of black ceramic and decorated with goat skin, ornaments cut from coconut shell and fibers, and seeds. (Brazilian artists are among the most resourceful on the planet.) Hollanda pays homage to the three races that formed the Brazilian nation: the indigenous, the Europeans, and the Africans. These are the only Roberto Hollanda sculptures I know of in the United States. They just arrived, nearly a year after I placed the order with the artist! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! ~ Roy Saper"
