Valery Basanets
Basanets Valery Lukich (born on January 11th, 1941 in the city of Brody, Lvov Oblast, Ukraine). The Distinguished Artist of Ukraine (2009). Was born in the family of a military man. Graduated from Odessa Art College, Fine Art Department (1963). Works in the field of fine art, graphics and sculptures. In the sixties he joined the group of young non-conformist artists whose activity influenced the development of Odessa fine art in the second half of the XX century. In 1966 started exhibiting his art works. In the period of “stagnation” took part in many “apartment exhibitions” (Odessa, Moscow, Leningrad). A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1970). A member of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine (1993). One of the founding members of “Choven” group of artists and “Mamay” Creative Union (1998).
Solo exhibitions: Odessa (1980-1981, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2009), Lvov (2002, 2003), Kiev (2004).
Rewards: The First Prize at Young Artists of Ukraine Exhibition-Contest (Moscow, VDNKh (Exhibition of Economic Achievements), 1971); Grand Prix at Impreza-89 International Biennale in the Fine Art Nomination (Ivano-Frankovsk, 1989); The First Prize at Impreza-91 International Biennale in Graphics Nomination (Ivano-Frankovsk, 1991); Juries Prize at Impreza-93 International Biennale in Sculpture Nomination (Ivano-Frankovsk, 1993); Prize Winner at Lvov-91. Resurrection. Ukrainian Fine Art Biennale (Lvov, 1991); The First Prize at High Castle Lvov Autumn Salon Exhibition-Contest (Lvov, 1999).
